Veckans citat - Quote of the Week

Monday, October 01, 2007

"Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mind-bogglingly useful [the Babel fish] could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as a final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God. The argument goes something like this:

'I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, 'for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.'

'But,' says Man, 'the Babel fish is a dead giveaway isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves that you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. Q.E.D.'

'Oh dear,' says God, 'I hadn't thought of that,' and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.

'Oh, that was easy,' says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing.

Most leading theologians claim that this argument is a load of dingo's kidneys."

Blogfriday - Start

Start.

Start. My first association to the word is that it has to do with changes. And changes can be hard, at least at first. I once heard a manager comment that all people react negatively to change to begin with. "How will this affect me? After a while, some people are very positive and even enthusiastic, when they think of the new possibilities. While others are scared and worried, wonder what will happen to them now.

If you want to implement a deliberate change you have to, on some level, look back and see what came before, to realize and admit it - to yourself and maybe to others, it depends on what kind of change it is. Once you've done that, once you've made those choices, you are often eager to start the new.

To me, Start is still a very positive word. To start something fresh is almost always fun and joyful. Most of the times when you start something new, it's because you've chosen it, right? To start over or get a second chance at something can be a relieving thought. You can let go of what's been and start over. You can never change what has been, but you do have the power to change what will come.

I'm starting to sound like Dr Phil or a New Age book, so I'd better stop now... ;)
